Malaysia's Budget 2024 has updated various tax reliefs, effective from Year Assessment 2024, which changes the TP1 Form and TP3 Form.


Pursuant to Budget 2024, these tax relief changes items are updated =


1. Expansion of Scope of Income Tax Relief for Medical Treatment Expenses for Self, Spouse and Child.

  • This scope will be expanded to include dental examination and treatment expenses from dental practitioners registered with the Malaysia Dental Council and supported by an official receipt.

  • The tax relief will be limited to RM 1,000


2. Expansion of Scope of Income Tax Relief for Medical Treatment, Special Needs and Carer Expenses for Parents

  • This scope will be expanded to include full medical examination for parents.

  • The tax relief will be limited to RM 1,000

  • This scope will be expanded to include dental examination and treatment expenses from dental practitioners registered with the Malaysia Dental Council and supported by an official receipt.

  • The tax relief will be limited to RM 1,000


3. Review of Lifestyle Income Tax Relief

  1. This scope will be expanded to include fees for self-improvement courses

  2. Removal of expenditure on the purchase of sports equipment and gymnasium membership fees from this scope.

    1. Specific tax relief will be introduced, i.e, “Sports Equipment and Activities”

    2. The Sports Equipment and Activities tax relief scope will include expenditure on sports equipment and fees for use of sport facilities, registration for sports tournaments and gym memberships.

    3. The tax relief will be limited to RM 1,000 (increased from RM 500)


4. Review of Income Tax Exemption for Childcare Allowance under Perquisites from Employment

  • The income tax exemption on childcare allowances received by employees or paid directly by employers to childcare centers

  • This tax exemption will be limited to RM 3,000 (increased from RM 2,400)
